制度概要

日米両政府の支援により2024年4月に設立された「Cross-Pacific AI Initiative」は、Amazon、NVIDIA、ワシントン大学ならびに筑波大学による人工知能（AI）に特化した10年間の共同研究プロジェクトです。本イニシアチブの目標は、AI研究を含む科学研究を推進し、社会に利益をもたらす変革の推進を図ることです。さらに、4つの機関の間で長期的な研究協力を促進し、イノベーションを加速させるパートナーシップモデルを開発することを目指しています。本公募は、この枠組みのなかでの研究プロジェクトを支援することを目的として実施するものです。

 

募集分野

今回の公募では、AIに関連した以下の5分野に関する申請を募集します。

 

1) Robotics
2) Health, Aging, and Longevity
3) Climate and Sustainability
4) Improving AI Model Efficiency
5) Trustworthy AI

 

応募要件

本学に所属する教員

 

注1）筑波大学外の研究機関に所属する共同研究者（Co-PI）を含むグループ構成も可としますが、代表研究者（PI）は本学に所属する教員に限ります。

 

研究費支援額・期間

• 1件につき、1年あたり1750万円-5600万円※とし、2年間を研究支援期間とします。

（※125,000-400,000米ドル／年；間接経費を含む）

• 支援期間： TBD（2025年3月頃から2年間を予定）

 

注1） 採択件数はプロジェクトとの適合性によって決定されます。

注2） 支援の一部は計算機（GPU）利用時間等の形で現物支給される可能性があります。

応募方法・期限

• 募集の詳細については、上記「Call For Proposals」ならびに「公募要項別紙」をご確認ください。
• 本公募への応募は、2段階の書類提出を必要とします。
• 申請者は第一段階として申請概要（Letter of intent; LOI）を提出し、その後、第二段階としてLOIを含む申請書一式を提出します。それぞれの提出期限が異なることにご注意ください。
• 作成したLOIは、1ページのPDFファイルとして学内公募支援システム（u-Rad）を通じて提出してください。詳しくは以下のURLをご確認ください。https://ura.sec.tsukuba.ac.jp/u-rad

About ”The Cross-Pacific AI Initiative”

The Cross-Pacific AI Initiative, established with the support of the U.S. and Japanese governments in April 2024, is an AI-focused 10-year collaboration between Amazon, NVIDIA, the University of Washington, and University of Tsukuba. The Cross-Pacific AI Initiative’s goal is to advance scientific research, including artificial intelligence (AI) research to drive transformative change to benefit society. In addition, the Cross-Pacific AI Initiative seeks to foster long-term research collaboration between all four institutions and develop partnership models that accelerate innovation. Under this framework, the Cross-Pacific AI Initiative is hosting an open call for proposals to support research projects.

 

Research areas

This call for proposals is open to applications in the following five AI-related fields.

 

1) Robotics
2) Health, Aging, and Longevity
3) Climate and Sustainability
4) Improving AI Model Efficiency
5) Trustworthy AI

 

Application requirements

Faculty members of University of Tsukuba

 

(Note 1) Groups that include researchers (Co-PIs) outside the University of Tsukuba are also acceptable, but only researchers affiliated with the University of Tsukuba will be eligible for the principal investigator (PI).

 

Award detail

• For a selected proposal, the amount of research funding is 17,500,000 yen to 56,000,000 yen per year* for a period of two years.

(* US$125,000-400,000; including indirect costs)

• Support period: TBD (two years starting around March 2025)

 

(Note 1) The number of awards will be determined by project fit.

(Note 2) Funding will also possibly be in the form compute-in-kind.

Application methods and deadlines

• Please refer to the “Call For Proposals” and the “Application guideline” for more information on submitting the research proposal.
• To apply this solicitation, documents need to be submitted in two phases.
• Applicants will submit a “Letter of intent (LOI)” as the first step, followed by submitting the whole application documents including the LOI as the second step. Please note that different submission deadlines are set for each step.
• LOI must be submitted as a single PDF file through the university’s internal application support system (u-Rad). Please refer to the following URL for details. https://ura.sec.tsukuba.ac.jp/u-rad
• Full proposal submission details will be released at a later date.
