世界初の日本語にも対応したオープンリサーチ出版ゲートウェイとして誕生した筑波大学ゲートウェイを源流に持つ「Japan Institutional Gateway」（JIG）は、従来のジャーナルに収まりきらない萌芽的・学際的研究を受け入れ、オープン査読によって論文の質を高めながら、国際的に発信できる新しい出版プラットフォームです。

日本語で書かれた論文も Scopusにインデックスされ、世界中の研究者に届くチャンスが広がり、また、生成AI時代に不可欠な「透明性ある公開査読」の文化を広げる拠点としての役割も担っています。

本セミナーでは、JIGで出版した論文を基にRoutledge社から英語書籍を出版するルートをご紹介します。筑波大学が推進役を務めるこの取り組みを通じて、研究成果を世界へ、次のステージへ。

「Japan Institutional Gatewayの効果的な活用術」（日本語）

テイラー＆フランシス・グループのビジネス開発マネージャーであり、学術出版業界で20年以上の経験を持っています。急速に変化する学術出版の環境の中で、学術団体、編集者、研究機関、大学図書館/URA、および研究者の出版活動を支援しています。筑波大学の支援を受けてJapan Institutional Gatewayを管理し、日本におけるオープンサイエンスを推進するための実践的なアプローチを提案しています。2024年からは、STM協会日本支部の副会長を務めています。

Born from the University of Tsukuba Gateway—the world’s first open research publishing gateway that supports Japanese— the Japan Institutional Gateway (JIG) is a new publishing platform designed to:

  • Welcome pioneering and interdisciplinary research beyond conventional journals

  • Enhance quality through open peer review

  • Ensure Japanese-language papers are indexed in Scopus for global visibility

In the age of generative AI, JIG also plays a vital role in promoting transparent, open peer review, helping to spread this essential culture throughout Japan.

This seminar will introduce a unique pathway: how to publish your paper through JIG and then repurpose it into an English book with Routledge.

“Effective Utilization of the Japan Institutional Gateway”

Tomoko Yamanojo Childress is a Business Development Manager at Taylor & Francis Group with over 20 years of experience in the academic publishing industry. She supports the publishing efforts of academic associations, editors, research institutes, university libraries/URAs, and researchers while navigating the rapidly changing landscape of academic publishing. She manages the Japan Institutional Gateway, supported by the University of Tsukuba, and proposes practical approaches to advancing open science in Japan. Since 2024, she has been serving as Vice President of the Japan Chapter of the STM Association.

“Routledge: How to Republish Existing Content in English”

Katie Peace is Associate Director, Community Development, Asia Pacific for Taylor & Francis. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the publishing industry globally. Through her experience she has insights into academic journals and books publishing processes and specializes in advising and guiding authors to produce the best publishing output. She is happy to share her knowledge with early career researchers and experienced academics in Asia Pacific looking to publish their work for an international market.
