In order to promote research, the University of Tsukuba Research Administration/Management Office conducts a wide range of activities, including analyzing scientific and technical trends and societal needs; proposing research strategies based on these; planning, proposing, and negotiating research projects; encouraging relationships with researchers from Japan and other countries; promoting digital transformation of operations; winning research funding, research publicity and research branding; and making proposals to encourage the use of research outcomes.
The University of Tsukuba Research Administration/Management Office aims to build a research environment that enables researchers to perform their research at their best and proposes improvements after analyzing problems within the university, taking hints from successful precedents in Japan and other countries and national government policies. To assist in winning (interdisciplinary) research funding to accelerate research and expand its breadth, our basic knowledge incorporates global research trends and movements in national policy, and we work hard to offer support to optimize the appeal of research proposals.
The University of Tsukuba Research Administration/Management Office reviews existing operations, develops and builds new systems, investigates and analyzes research policies throughout the world, and shares information to support research strategy proposals, with aims including “securing research time for researchers,” “improving administrative work efficiency,” and “maximizing researchers’ research performance.”
One of the URAs’ important roles is to provide connections for researchers with new and different fields and the latest information. Strategies for promoting relationships between researchers lead to challenges in new fields and open up the potential for expanding into joint academic research, for example. In addition, by providing information on research trends at an international level, which researchers themselves may not be fully aware of, furthering digital technologies, and establishing internal research funds, the University of Tsukuba Research Administration/Management Office contributes to deepening research and expanding it internationally.
Winning research funding is significant in that it allows researchers to deepen their research and continually improve its quality. The University of Tsukuba Research Administration/Management Office works on winning research funding as a target across the entire university, while collaborating aggressively with internal administrative departments, not to mention cooperating with researchers. Especially for researchers early in their career, attaining the skills to take an objective view of their research and write an attractive application is important not only for the direct outcome of winning research funds, but also for building a successful career as a researcher.
Public relations help to promote the goals and achievements of research to society. It provides an effective opportunity to continuously attract collaboration and support for research activities, which is essential for the development of research.
The University of Tsukuba Research Administration/Management Office holds various seminars and workshops to help researchers improve their skills in presenting the potential value of their research to various targets such as other researchers, funding agencies, companies and public.
