Academic advancement drives social and economic progress
Academic research conducted by research universities, particularly basic research, has a great economic impact (see figure below). As a research university, the University of Tsukuba promotes the scholarly development of humanity as part of the academic sector and believes that the products of this will provide the driving force to move the economy, society, and culture forward through embodiments in the industrial and social welfare sectors.
With this objective in mind, the University of Tsukuba Research Administration/Management Office contributes to proposing university research strategies, optimizing research environments, broadening research funding, fostering research globalization and diversification, and developing new fields of inquiry. URA members’ diverse expertise, internationality, experience, and knowledge are effective in helping to maximize researchers’ academic research capabilities.
Basic research funding correlates with future GDP more strongly and for longer than applied research funding
At least five references containing the Granger causality from Lee et al. (2011) have proved a cause-and-effect relationship whereby research → GDP.
